Why Outsourcing Tasks on Fiverr Can Save Your Sanity (and Your Marketing)

May 27, 2024

Welcome to Marketing Monday: How Delegation, Outsourcing, and Fiverr Can Save Your Sanity and Your Business

If you run a business – or are the “go-to” web person in your organization – you’ve probably hit this wall: staring at a design project that somehow keeps getting messier instead of better. In today’s Marketing Monday, I want to talk openly about WHY it’s not just okay to seek help, but why seeking help can be one of your best professional moves. My recent struggle with a business brochure is the perfect example of how leveraging platforms like Fiverr, and learning when to delegate, can transform the way you work – and the results you get.

Let’s Back Up: The Brochure That Wouldn’t Behave

As a 30-year marketing and web professional, you’d think simple tasks like a two-page trifold brochure would be old hat by now. But here’s the honest truth: sometimes, projects just drag on. I found myself cycling through draft after draft, firing off files to the print shop, and every single time, something was off. The folds didn’t line up. The colors weren’t right. The design felt, well, forced – and my attempts at fixing it, even after decades in the business, left me frustrated.

I realized something critical: just because I can do something doesn’t mean I’m the best person for the job. This is where the magic of delegation and outsourcing comes in.

Why We Struggle With Delegation

I hear it in the small business community all the time. “I should be able to do this.” Or worse: “I can’t afford help.” The truth is, wearing too many hats leads to burnout, bottlenecks, and (most dangerously) mediocre results. Here’s the thing: there are people out there who LIVE for the exact jobs you dread. Design, copywriting, software tweaks, and even AI automation – for someone else, your struggles are their zone of genius.

The question isn’t “Should I outsource?” but: “How much time, energy, and income am I losing by NOT outsourcing?”

The Outsourcing Solution: Enter Fiverr

This brings me to one of my favorite productivity hacks: using Fiverr to tackle small-to-medium creative and technical projects. If you’ve never browsed Fiverr, it’s a global online marketplace where you can hire freelancers (they call them “sellers”) for virtually any task imaginable. When Fiverr started, every job (or “gig”) was five bucks. While most pro gigs are more now, the platform has exploded with talent to fit any budget and need.

So for my stubborn brochure, I headed over to Fiverr to look at what I was up against and – more importantly – who could actually help me. Here’s how the process changed everything, and some takeaways you can put to work in your business right away.

Step 1: Defining the Real Problem

My first mistake was trying to “fix” the brochure without the right materials. I didn’t even have the original source files, so every minor design adjustment became a new round of guesswork. By shifting my approach from “cheaper” and “do-it-yourself” to “hire the expert and get it right,” I immediately reframed both the problem and the solution.

Step 2: Browsing for the Right Help on Fiverr

With my problem defined, I fired up Fiverr – it’s as easy as logging in and running a quick search for “brochure design.” Literally, within minutes, I was looking at dozens (if not hundreds) of professionals offering exactly what I needed.

But here’s the golden rule of outsourcing: Don’t shop by price alone. Look for:

- Reviews and Ratings: I spotted a top-rated vendor with a 4.8-star score from over 200 reviews (and nearly 5,000 projects completed overall).

- Package Options: Basic designs started at $25, but since my pain point was lacking the editable source file, I was happy to pay the $100 premium to get exactly what I needed, including unlimited revisions and a true print-ready design.

- Portfolio Samples: Seeing what someone has already created gives you instant feedback on their quality, style, and fit for your brand.

Step 3: Calculating the REAL Value

This is where so many get stuck. Is a hundred bucks “expensive” for a brochure? Not if your time is worth anything – or if you’re planning to use that brochure to land new clients or generate thousands in new revenue. Think of outsourcing not as a cost but as an investment. In my case, after weeks of time lost and a growing sense of frustration, the value of a fast, expert solution was undeniable.

Step 4: Communicating What You Want

If you’ve ever had a “bad” outsourcing experience, it almost always comes back to communication. Here are some tips:

- Be as detailed as possible about what you want. Reference other brochures you like. Specify color schemes, style, and branding needs.

- Explain the purpose of the brochure. Who is it for? What message should it send?

- Clarify your expectations about timing, revisions, and deliverables (like source files or print-ready files).

- Don’t be afraid to ask questions or provide feedback at every step. Great freelancers want this – it helps them nail your project on the first try.

Power Tips for Getting the Most From Fiverr

While the above covers my main use-case, Fiverr is a goldmine for almost any business task. Here’s how to get even more value:

1. Look Beyond Top Sellers:

Everyone flocks to 5-star sellers with thousands of reviews, but there’s gold in the up-and-coming freelancers with just a handful of reviews. New sellers often work even harder for you, trying to establish their reputations, and you can sometimes negotiate even lower prices or additional value (like rush delivery or extra revisions).

2. Mind the Ads:

When you search, you'll notice promoted gigs at the top – sometimes these are higher priced due to advertising costs. Don’t skip them, but make sure to scroll down and compare.

3. Experiment With Micro-Tasks:

Got a tiny job – a quick fix, small edit, social media graphic, or data entry? Fiverr excels at these “micro” tasks that just aren’t worth your time. Ten or twenty dollars can buy back hours of your life.

4. Use Packages for Complex Projects:

Bigger projects (like web design or multi-page documents) often come with tiered packages: Basic, Standard, Premium. Decide up front what tools or files you’ll need in the future – if you might want to edit the design yourself, ALWAYS purchase the version with the original or source files (like PSD or AI).

5. Build Relationships:

Once you find a freelancer you love, treat them well! Consistency saves you time briefing new people and helps you develop a working shorthand for future projects.

How to Increase Success When Outsourcing Creative Work

Here’s a system I recommend to all my clients when sending out a creative task (brochures, graphics, websites, you name it):

- Gather ALL existing resources: past brochures, logos, brand guides, and clear, high-resolution images.

- Write (or dictate) a short project brief: What’s the goal? Who’s the audience? Why is this piece needed? What’s critical, and what’s nice-to-have?

- Sketch if you can: Even if it’s rough – a napkin drawing is better than nothing. It helps clarify your vision and reduces back-and-forth.

- Over-communicate, but don’t micromanage: Give your freelancer room to show off their skill, but be responsive and clear in your feedback.

- Be patient: Allow a few cycles for revisions. Great work – and a great working relationship – are worth the small investment of time.

What Fiverr (and Other Outsourcing Tools) Mean for Your Business

Think beyond brochures. Imagine hiring out:

- Social media content and scheduling

- Blog post writing and editing

- Website design, maintenance, or troubleshooting

- Automation setups (from Zapier flows to AI chat integrations)

- Logo design, branding kits, and presentation materials

The opportunity isn’t just saving time – it’s accelerating your results. In my own case, that stubborn brochure which would have consumed weeks (or even longer) of my valuable attention is now on track to be done in 24-48 hours, handled by a pro who LOVES this kind of design work.

This frees me up to focus on higher-impact tasks: talking with customers, building business, teaching automation and web skills, and creating training courses for my community.

And if you’re hesitant? Remember:

- Successful people play to their strengths – and outsource the rest.

- Your time has immense value. Guard it relentlessly.

- There’s a global talent pool waiting to help you win.

Final Thoughts: Redefine What “Success” Looks Like

In my 30-plus years in marketing and tech, I’ve seen the most successful businesses do one thing differently: they refuse to do everything themselves. They hire, delegate, and outsource with confidence, knowing that expertise and focus always win. Whether it’s a $10 task or a $1,000 project, the ROI of getting it done right – and fast – pays off many times over.

The next time you hit a roadblock, instead of doubling down and grinding through it, pause and ask: who plays at what I have to work at? (And where can I find their help today?)

Platforms like Fiverr aren’t just for startups or the “non-techy.” They are tools for seasoned experts and newbies alike. For me, bringing in outside creative help not only got my brochure done, but it breathed new life into my project and reminded me what’s possible when we let go and bring in the best.

Ready to free up your time, raise the quality of your output, and enjoy your work more? Log in, browse, communicate, and delegate. Your next breakthrough might be just a gig away.

Thanks for joining me for Marketing Monday. Here’s hoping your next project – whether it’s a stubborn brochure or something much bigger – turns out better, faster, and more profitably than ever before. And if you're stuck, remember: help is just a click away.

See you next time for Traffic Tuesday!
